I believe that every community should be able to contribute ideas and have their voice heard. First Nations comunities who have been around for many years have gained a vast ecological knowledge of our world. Many generations, living sustainably and gathering observations and interactions with local environments.
I envision a world where traditional ecological knowledge is valued and further engrained in our decision making process to decrease the potential negative effects of a proposed project. It is important to integrate and resepct their values to build trust and move as one, rather then separate groups, furthering protection of our home.
Integrating traditional ecological knowledge and ideals into our education system would benefit everyone. Through educating students, the knowledge of First Nations groups would gain exposure and become more mainstream and integrated into society.
Hi RB, I agree with your values, vision and intervention. In order to limit and hopefully prevent horrific events from happening with marginalized communities in the future, it is essential that the truth (or as close to the truth as we can get) is told to kids in the education system.
Hi RB, speaking up for the indigenous community is totally not easy in this judgmental and skeptical society. Traditional ecological knowledge is surely what should be conserved and integrated into the practices of the community. I hang onto a similar thought and I truly value equity in voices from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities.
I definitely agree that educating young students is one of the best ways to make sure that Indigenous ideas and visions get passed on to the next generation. I would also like to add that we should increase the number of Indigenous teachers/guest speakers that educate children every year. Having more Indigenous instructors who have experience existing in harmony with the land would be greatly beneficial to the next generation of young leaders.
