Hello, my name is Jilong Zhong, a fourth-year student majoring in natural resources conservation in the faculty of forestry. I’m taking ENVR 430 this term because I’m really interested in sustainability, hope I can incorporate the thinking of sustainability into conservation science to better know how to protect wild species and their habitats.
My own personal favourite ecosystem is the tropical rainforest, which I find fascinating for its diversity of species. Biodiversity in tropical forests is much higher than in temperate and boreal forests, and many species are at risk of extinction. The deforestation of tropical forests is a way to satisfy the needs of people all over the world, but it is also depriving many species of the space they need to survive. I think it's a good idea to contribute to the sustainability of the rainforest region by purchasing sustainably certified products on a daily basis, such as supplies and agricultural products with the Rainforest Alliance logo.
