I envision a future where campsites care about the wild as much as they do about the campers. A guiding principle for this movement would be to leave the wild as it was if you happen to inhabit that space for some time. Campsites are known for damaging the wild, especially due to the campfires that are not properly put out. Campsites should ban campfires in the wild and should implement lanterns or other methods of heat and light to decrease the risk of wildfires starting.

Hi Ari, I really like your suggestions on ways we can move away from the use of campfires in the wild! The damage that a forest fire can do on nearby communities and the environment is immense and we need to find ways to prevent this devastation from occurring.
Hi Ari, I found some statistics said that about 85 percent of the wildland fires in the US is caused by human activities including campfires left unattended. So I like that you pointed out a major source of wildfire, and we can be more considerate about our behaviours.
Those are some great ideas, Ari. In BC, I'm not sure the percent of campsites that are private/provincial/federal land, but the provincial government has the most amount of power to make these sweeping changes. There's also a lot of demand for camping in the summer, and the provincial booking sites are often quickly filled up as soon as they are open, so there should be enough resources to make these changes.
Hi Ari, I agree that we need to be more proactive in preventing fires. Banning campfires is a solution which can really reduce forest fires started by humans.
Hello Ari, It's certainly upsetting to see natural spaces being harmed for human entertainment, and at the very least we should be acting responsibly where we do have the privilege of enjoying different landscapes. It's definitely reassuring to see that campfire regulations have been more strict in the last few years, hopefully they keep that up! And, also punish those who don't abide by the laws and rules in an appropriate matter.
Hi Ari Kim, I agree campsites can often cause great harm if mismanaged and used improperly which is often the case! This is especially more prevalent in hot and dry seasons. I think there should be higher regulations and more strict punishment for campfires that are ignited in prohibited areas! This is a feasible preventative measure against wildfires.
I like your point that campsites should ban campfires in the wild and use lanterns and other methods as well. This would reduce the chance of accidental fire!
It's honestly so awful going to a campsite only to find tonnes of charred wood and garbage strewn around. I wish people respected our environment as much as they enjoy it. In regards to the campfires specifically, I think implementing a system where when you book a campsite, you can also book a portable campfire/fire pit that you return as you leave the the camp site. Maybe that'd help clean up our campsites.
Great point and love the lantern idea! Maybe they could be solar powered lanterns. It's good to raise awareness, I think a lot of campers don't think about the increased risk of wildfires because of their campfires.
Hi Ari, I agree that campfires should be regulated more than currently to reduce the amount of fires during the hot, dry months where campfires are more common.
