Value
I value equity and justice, especially with environmental issues. By that I mean that all people should have equal rights and opportunities, including the right to clean water, food and a safe environment. Also people living in an area that is affected by an environmental decision should make the final calls regarding that decision.
Vision
The government would have to consult and get consent from all people impacted by an environmental decision. All projects would be careful to include historical inequalities in their evaluations. Indigenous people would have full rights to their land.
Intervention
New laws could be made spelling out a procedure that must be followed to ensure just decision making. Regular audits could occur to evaluate the success of this program. Punishments and fines would exist for those who did not have justice and reconciliation informed practices.
This is a picture of a starfish on the ground at UBC, maybe brought by a bird. It's a reminder that our human habitats are more intertwined with the larger environmental system than we might expect.

Hi Anya, I see eye-to-eye with your values. It is essential that community members of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds actively engage in opportunities to contribute to the delivery of justice. For example, as you suggested, during the decision-making process, such as voting and signing petitions. The community needs to be engaged in order to achieve system changing action.
Hey, I totally agree with everything you mention in this post. I think it is super important that whoever is impacted by an environmental issue should have a say in the outcome as it directly effects their wellbeing.
Hey Anya, I really love how you specified enforcements in the intervention part. I also have a similar viewpoint as you on this issue and I feel like the environment belongs to everyone so the call should be made only when everybody agree on that. What are your thoughts on ways to getting consents from people being affected?
I agree that it is true that it is crucial that we need to allow local people to be able to participate in any discussion that may result in important decisions. However, if we were to implement laws and auditing systems in their interest, how can we guarantee that the auditing system actually acts for their interest and not what we think is their interest?
Hi Anya! I really agree that people living in an area that is affected by an environmental decision should make the final calls regarding that decision. At the end of the day, the land is just as much the people's as it is the government, so this should be reflected in decision-making and policy formation.
I love your approach regarding law adjustment and implementing fines into the system, but how do we identify those violated amongst cyberbullying and anonymous offenders?
Hi Anya!! Your starfish image really captures our interconnectedness with the environment, emphasizing the importance of mindful decisions. I love your vision for inclusive conversations and consideration of historical inequalities which is crucial for change. Establishing laws and consequences for unjust practices would definietly help promte this change.
