I believe that First Nations should be included with fisheries and tourism. As this injustice relates to all three dimensions of injustice being distributional, procedural and recognitional. Especially after learning about the impacts of sea otters on First Nations communities without their consultation. I envision a world where all First Nations peoples (including their knowledge and resources about sustainable fishing) are included in consultations, policy making in fisheries and tourism. I would like to implement a mandate that requires regular consultation of First Nations people in Canada with any new policies and legislations for fisheries or tourism of First Nation Reserves, prior to the policies being effective. #UnleashValues @cosphereprojectÂ

Those are beautiful carvings! 😃 Thank you for sharing such a wonderful photograph! I think Indigenous People should be our all around go to people for anything to do with Sustainability and Ecological and Human Health! And then some more! The languages projects are very fascinating for me! Have you seen this amazing Indigenous Languages resource? https://www.firstvoices.com/
Definitely, a great way to begin learning and appreciating a culture is to learn its spoken words. Greetings are always a good start! Learning local geographical names for places, animals, things, and peoples in the relevant local Indigenous languages also acknowledges their first civilizations status as First Nations People and their Lands and Territories.
Hi Eman, I agree with your vision, but with a slight tweak: I think that Indigenous people need to be consulted throughout the decision-making process for all decisions, period. Fisheries and Tourism are definitely important subject matters on the list, though. Implementing the mandate is a great step towards achieving increased consultation with Indigenous people across Canada.
I love the sound of your mandate! Very clear and well thought-out. I also think that the Indigenous should be included in consultation with regards to land use policy making, as well. As important as their voice is in terms of fisheries, they should also have a say on how their land is used, as that land was originally theirs and they have more experience with living with the land than any of us.
I agree with the consultation of First Nations People regarding policies and the decision-making process. It would be nice if they could become tour guides in their territory to make additional income because of their immense knowledge and cultural influence for the sake of tourism and trade-offs.
Hi Eman, I agree that is important to include the First Nations in fishing and tourism especially given that they ancestrally resided on this land. In terms of the policies, how can government ensure that the voices of the First Nations have an equal weight to all other parties and not get downplayed despite being included in the discussions?
Hi Eman! I agree with your ideas, especially on the three dimensions of injustice. It's important to recognize the knowledge First Nations communities bring, especially in the context of sustainable fishing. Their history and experience with the land/sea is something we should really place value in. What measures can be put in place to ensure these consultations are effective and not just as a formality?
