Value
I value clean water, food and items that are safe and healthy for my body.
Vision
In my vision, I don’t have to worry about chemicals and endocrine disruptors leaking into my water and my food. There are enforced rules that mitigate the way chemicals enter into waterways. The amount of plastic in the ocean has been reduced, so plastics are less present in seafood, and chemicals like BPA banned. Wood, paper, or (even better) reusable packaging is used instead of plastic.
Intervention
Interventions can include lobbying policymakers to ban harmful chemicals like BPA from food packaging. For example, the organization Breast Cancer Prevention Partners started the campaign Cans Not Cancer to pressure manufactures to remove BPA from the lining of cans. Educating the public through social media is also a good idea, since not everyone knows that BPA is found in receipts, face masks, and more. Interventions can also provide social pressure–to use a reusable water bottle instead of plastic, for example.

Hey Anya,
Great points and love the photo! Lobbying policymakers to ban harmful substances like BPA in food packaging, as demonstrated by initiatives such as "Cans Not Cancer," is a key step. Harmful chemicals as you mentioned can be found even in unexpected places like receipts and face masks which the public deserve to understand fully the risks associated.
Hi Anya, I agree that regulatory policies for chemical usage in manufacturing would be an effective way to control toxin exposure in the public. However, how could exposure from pre-existing plastic products be reduced?
Hi Anya! I agree with valuing and also expecting safe and healthy materials for our body. In terms of your items with BPA free, how do you think we can make sure these rules are not only created but actually enforced?
My late mom's diagnosis before she died was breast cancer.
According to Google:
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used to make Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE) epoxy resins and hard plastic containers 1. Its use in the food industry is common, as BADGE epoxy resins are often coated on the inside of cans to prevent direct contact between the food and the metal.Sep 18, 2020
If we want preserved foods, we should ask for them in glass jars. Metal cans are a relic of past wars and should be banned across the board wherever reasonably and soon as possible.
Besides prolife as my "religion", sorting my recycling is my natural habit in my humble abode. Thank you for also doing yours!
Thank you for sharing your concern. After googling your concern, I now have yet another reason to change my food purchasing habits. You may have saved my life! 💕
