Value: I value recycling, the environment, human and other animal health and sustainability. I was unaware of how recycling plastic is essentially a scam and that most plastic that enters the recycling bin doesn't end up being recycled into something else.
Vision: I envision a future where plastics are fully recycled and governments mandate responsibility for recycling plastics. Remove conflict of interest in EIA legislation banning single-use plastics. Pass stricter bills to increase producer responsibility. Regulate endocrine disrupting compounds and that plastic use, in general, is limited.
Action: I will try to reduce plastic waste by using reusable bottles and plastics in general as opposed to plastic bottles and spread awareness to friends and family. I will support brands that show legitimate recycling that they can prove and support a government that wants to focus on increasing plastic recycling, regulation and reduction.
Hi Bhavin, I too didn't realize how many plastics are not recyclable! This information should definitely be more public as I think many people would change their consumption habits if they knew this.
Hi Bhavin,
It is great to see you put your own contribution to plastic reduction in the post. If everyone were to play their part in plastic reduction, it would definitely make a big difference.
Hi Bhavin Patel, I really like that you highlighted actionable items at the individual level to incentivize change. Transformation at both the producer and consumer level will drive the need to implement a circular economy for plastics.
Hi Bhavin,
Those are definitely some actionable things that we should all frequently do. I just wish that everyone could be more accountable and instead of dealing with the plastic problem later, we should all be finding new ways to reduce plastic waste. I sometimes wonder if companies that brand themselves as making their products out of recycled plastics, to what extent is the truth? As we move into the next era, I hope humanity can make a change and start doing EVERYTHING more sustainably.
Hey Bhavin!
I share many of the same visions you describe here! I am curious what you mean by "governments [mandating] responsibility for recycling plastics." Would this be responsibility placed on consumers or companies, or both? If companies, what specific policies would be implemented? If individuals, how would you incentivize individuals to improve their recycling habits?
If it is okay with you, I was wondering if I could adopt the same actions that you proposed here? I also want to try and reduce the amount of plastic waste I produce, particularly milk jugs.
I agree with your actions. I always take several bags with me to prevent the situation that I suddenly want to buy some stuff and always take my water bottle to prevent I am thirsty. This is really hard because I still often forget, it is so inconvenient without single-use plastic, even if it is just a part of my life.
