I envision a future where plastic is not used carelessly and efforts are made to recycle it as much as possible to work towards a circular economy.
I think it is important to think about the impacts of plastics, especially single-use forms. It is selfish to use plastic because of its cheap, convenient nature and I think many can agree that it is used to an unnecessarily extreme extent.
We need to create laws that force companies to deal with their own plastic waste. If they were responsible for taking care of it themselves, they would not be as careless with their plastic use.
In addition to this, I think it is important to have third parties that ensure that the companies are being truthful and taking care of their waste properly. For instance, Terracycle was claiming to recycle plastic, when it was actually ready to be burned for energy. A third-party intervention would prevent this.
I agree, that laws need to be placed that reduce that amount of plastic that is used carelessly. Selfish intentions can be seen from a mile away, as plastic is a cheaper option as compared to other options like paper and cardboard. With plastic being cheaper, the amount of plastic being generated is larger, and the environmental impact is even larger.
Hi, Navkiran. Recycle is always a crucial topic for our society. Recyclable products should take more share of the goods market since it is hard to reduce people’s utilities. The companies are ought to take their own responsibility for recycling, by paying for recycling their own products and investing on research in recyclable materials.
Hi Navkiran,
I really agree with your post! Plastic is definitely the cheap and lazy option most of the time and I hope that we can all put in the effort going forward to reduce plastic waste. This shift 100% requires policy, law changes and transparency as well and I love how you mentioned this.
Hey Navkiran. I think your idea is great! It's a great idea to have companies and businesses provide solutions or policies to deal with plastic, I've thought about it but it may not be that easy, because plastic is very difficult to deal with, maybe reducing the use is still the best way to solve it for now as you mentioned!
Hello Navkiran, thank you for the thoughtful and concise post. I definitely agree with you that holding companies accountable for their own disposal of plastic is definitely a step in the right direction. With that being said I second with your opinion that there needs to be some sort of 3rd party auditing service that can monitor these large companies in regards to where this plastic waste is going and/or being reused. Furthermore, I wonder as to how exactly these 3rd parties may stop companies from operating proper disposal and reuse techniques as a cover up for burning and shipping of plastic they don't want to use.
Hi Navkiran! I agree, big companies tend to over-use plastic because it's cheap, easy to make and purchase. I like how you mentioned that third parties should be involved in investigating companies so that they remain truthful and limit their plastic use.
with more individual effort to make a change, hopefully more people can come together so we can make large strides to or envisioned futures
