Hi everyone I am a fourth year UBC student majoring in Biology. I am in ENVR 430 and I look forward to learn about how to create real change in sustainability as well as conservation and hopefully open my point of view up to different values and potential routes to be sustainable. My vision for a sustainable future involves reducing the usage of single use plastic. I believe there are many replacements for single use plastic that does not end in throwing out and leading to plastic left at the garbage dump. Single plastic is causing microplastics to be left in the ocean and ruining ecosystems. My plan for change involves first advocating against single use plastic and educate on the results of said microplastics and hopefully push for laws that fully ban the usage of single use plastics. Specifically for single use plastics, I myself would bring around utensils for example that allow me to personally opt out of causing more single use plastics. I believe that together, we can work towards improving the issue mentioned and improve the world. #UnleashValues

Have you ever looked at what it might cost to replace your gortex jacket with a sustainable cotton and wax alternative? Check this out:
How can I stop buying Gortex when the alternatives are becoming an ecologically & environmentally correct fashion-affluence statement for the "haves" who also have their vehicles and homes for more than just shelter, as is so disparate from the "have nots" who line up outside in the weather to sleep indoors on a floor mat or cot?
Hey Hugo, your personal initiative to carry reusable utensils is a great example of leading by action!! Small, everyday changes like these can have a meaningful impact when multiplied across a community. It's great for sharing some ways we can reduce our impact. Very uplifting post thanks for sharing!
