Water is crucial to survival in terms of diet, health, hygiene and beyond. Yet while resources are gradually dwindling, solutions to ensure water sustainability are not being implemented as fervently as an environmentally aware member of society would like ideally.
I envision a future where water is not taken for granted then depleted, leading to a drought/panic where societies do not know how to respond appropriately; measures should be taken proactively and in the present to help mitigate repercussions of large scale water crises.
An example of an intervention could be pushing for ‘rationing’ water with the Bill C-219 Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights in mind. The goal would be to incentivize cherishing, and reducing waste of our communally owned and limited resource. The bill could utilize rebates as discussed in class (that we would have to first better educate ourselves with), or offering limited amounts of free volumes of water before price-tags are attached. #unleashvalues 🙂
I agree water is one of the most important and invaluable resources we have access to, however, with the way we are going, it is not going to last forever. Education is required so that we can replenish this resource and allow for a positive future for the coming generations.
I agree. The government should enact a bill that gives strong support to both the formulation of reasonable policies and the implementation of relevant regulations.
Hey Anna!
I'm glad you mentioned Bill C-219 Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights as I had never heard of it before! Reading into it more, I totally agree with your idea of an intervention which focuses on encouraging people to reduce water waste by offering incentives as that also was the same idea I had in regards to what would be an effective way in reducing water usage. Great post!
Hi Anna, I really like your idea of offering limited amounts of free volumes of water for household before price-tags are attached. Larger volume of water can be offered for bigger household while smaller volume of water can be offered for smaller household :)
Great post! I agree with your idea of having a bill that can use rebates, which would motivate more people to value water and reduce water waste.
I agree! Having an intervention such as the Bill C-219 would be a step in the right direction and hopefully people would gradually start to cherish the water they have.
Hi Anna, I agree that more focus needs to be put on water sustainability. Individuals and corporations should be more aware of their water usage in order to preserve as much water as we can. The solutions you described are good steps to solving this problem.
Water is super important and I agree with your envision for the future where water is not taken for granted, as most of us do these days.
I think awareness is super important. Most people in developed countries know that they have better lifestyles and access to needed resources compared to developing countries, but I do not think they know truly how much better they have it. What I mean is that knowing that people don't have access to clean water is not enough if the same individual is wasteful with the water they use. It is important to spread awareness in how our current water consumption and wasteful trajectory leads to a scary future unless we change as a society.
