Youth are at the core of our push for systems change, but have also been among the most adversely impacted by the pandemic. Recently, Canada’s Finance Minister released the 2022 Federal Budget: A Plan to Grow Our Economy and Make Life More Affordable. But what does this plan entail and how might it impact youth? For an answer to this question, check out our partner Young Canadians Round Table on Health’s recent blog breaking down the budget here.

This is a space for CoSphere’s community to connect, learn, and take action for sustainability. Here’s how you can participate: 1. Ask and Answer Questions Confused or wondering about something science- and sustainability-related? Pose your questions and tag them with themes (e.g., climate change, biodiversity, or marine systems). Or search for tags relating to your expertise so you can answer questions for others. 2. Highlight Initiatives Concerned about bombarding friends and family on social media? When you come across (or are leading) a campaign, program, or initiative that supports system change for sustainability, you can share it here with folks that are eager to hear it. You can put it in context of the levers and leverage points, the six systems of transformation, and the three spheres of action, so we all understand how it fits in. If not, don’t worry—others can relate it to these ideas. 3. Introduce Yourself and Connect with Others Working for change can be lonely, uncertain and even frustrating. Introduce yourself to our community to build connections with others facing similar challenges along the complex journey to sustainability. What inspires and sustains you? What keeps you up at night? How can we help? 4. Share & Engage Share stories, research, or reflections, and comment on each others’ content. Not everyone is an expert; nor are you expected to be. Your posts can create opportunities for others to learn and think critically about sustainability solutions, or simply be a jumping-off point for discussion.

With the 2021 Canadian federal election right around the corner, it’s a daunting task to sift through all of the news in politics. You want to vote for the environment, but don’t know which platform speaks to your values. Don’t worry, we did the sifting for you and gathered some essential resources on how to get involved this election and vote for the planet! For how to register to vote and how to vote for nature, check out One Earth One Vote here. This initiative focuses on voting in favour of a sustainable, nature-positive and equitable world for all. Still not sure which parties share your views? Check out CBC’s Vote Compass here to find out! This algorithm was developed to explore the various platforms of the major political parties to find the one that aligns with your priorities. To learn more about ways you can contribute to this election, including volunteering, contacting representatives, or learning about each party’s platform, explore David Suzuki Foundation’s “Ways to do more this election” here! Want to take a stand and make a pledge to vote for nature? Then join Nature Canada’s “Vote for Nature'' pledge here! This initiative aims to increase awareness and hold the government responsible for taking action in favour of the planet.
