Hi Sofie, I agree with you that there should be more classes like ENVR 430! It's definitely easy to forget what's happening around us with how busy life is so I'm really glad to have taken this course and hope that others have the opportunity to as well :)

Hello Kevin! Thank you for bringing up organ donations as well :) While it may be difficult for organ donation after death to be mandatory (possibly due to cultural beliefs and human rights), I do agree with other's suggestion to make it the default option and something that we can opt out of if needed. It also is helpful to normalize talking about organ donations!

Hello Anna! I agree that we need to normalize allowing children to explore and get dirty, and I feel that your idea of doctors having to explain to new parents the benefits of getting a bit dirty would be very effective in normalizing this :)

Hello Eunee! I enjoyed reading your post and agree with you 100%. If funeral homes do not promote sustainable death care in hopes of earning more profit, we may have to create laws or regulations so that sustainable death care choices are more widely-known and chosen (and without the funeral homes losing too much profit).

Hello Ravinder! I agree with you that we need to normalize the topic of death and death care. I also like the idea of funeral homes being required to discuss the options of death care as it's one of the most likely places for the topic of death to be normalized. This also allows families to be able to plan ahead of time regarding what choice they want for their death care.

Prior to this week I actually didn't know about aquamation :( I feel that it's a great alternative to cremation and burial, and that normalizing the conversation about death care so that people know about their alternatives and impacts are key to more sustainable death care practices being widely used.

Hello Maria! I have never thought about it this way but after reading your post I 100% agree with you that the "recyclable" label has downplayed our concerns about single-use plastic usage. I am glad I was required to take an environmental course in high school as that class allowed me and my classmates to actually visit one of our landfills and truly realize the severity of everything. With this, I hope that this urgency can reach others as well and I agree that banning single-use plastics, as well as promoting innovative alternatives, can combat our plastic problem.

Considering how deep the Mariana Trench is and how difficult it is to get deep down there, it's saddening to hear that there is waste we have produced that will remain there for such a long period of time. However, I enjoyed reading your intervention as I've been meaning to try using beeswax wraps for a while now! Your post tying this into our ecosystem as well further makes me want to buy the wraps as soon as possible so thank you :)

Hello Vy! I appreciate the realistic outlook you have on this. As well, I agree with you that we should be pushing companies to make changes in production that mitigates our usage of disposable plastics. Although we as consumers can do our best to make sustainable choices and lessen our usage of single-use plastics, it is definitely still difficult to avoid them due to the vast amount of products that we require that use plastic packaging.

Hello Kevin! I'm glad you brought this up because I've noticed it as well and found it odd and quite unnecessary, especially since there was a time I only bought one shirt and a few accessories... Please let us know if Nike or Patagonia ever responds to you! I'd love to hear their reasons towards using the disposable plastic bags and I hope as well that it will be a thing of the past :)

Hi Katie! I'm glad you brought up greenwashing because although I have never heard of the term specifically, I have heard of the concept of greenwashing. I agree with you that since companies are likely not going to take action and change their ways that we have to be the change instead and force them towards that action- and as consumers we can have a bigger impact than we think! The next difficult thing, however, is actually getting the laws into place :')

I really enjoyed the clarity of your post and agree that we mustn't undermine the efforts of many wealthy individuals that took the time and risks in order to get to where they are now as not all billionaires are necessarily bad people. I also liked your vision as it not only focused on what we can try to do in the present, but also focuses on educating the next generations for a more equitable future.

Hello Helen! I really liked your post and although I agree with your values and would love to see more equity between individuals, similar to what Yaxi said, I also believe it will be difficult as it’s unfortunately human nature to be quite selfish. As a result, this idea could cause lots of dispute and dissatisfaction between individuals. I love the idea of increasing tax for the more wealthy and hope to see a version of it that will be fair for everyone.
