Long winded response here.
It’s hard to pinpoint a specific moment because I’ve really always had an affinity towards policy, government, and law. But I’d say it likely arose from my love of history since I was a kid. I'd consider myself a bit of a history buff, which has exposed me to a multitude of government, law, and policy topics over the years. In fact, three of my favorite classes in high school were International Relations, European History, and US Government. I was also a proud founding member of my high school’s political science club, which was really just an excuse for me and my friends to meet up after school and debate politics (nerdy I know).
However my love for the natural science seemingly triumphed and I majored in environmental science at UBC (though I did consider minoring in poli-sci on multiple occasions). Over the past 2 years I’ve sort of rediscovered my love of policy, law, and government. I realized I didn’t have to give up this interest for my career in the sciences and that I could combine the two. This ultimately lead to my decision to now pursue a master’s in environmental policy.
