We were introduced to various sustainable alternatives to the traditional burial plots and cremations in class today. While it's great that we are addressing these inefficient and ecological straining methods, we should also carefully consider the possibility of organ donations after death. Living is already a difficult task already, and those that experience organ failures are unable to enjoy life to the fullest. If we view life as a right, then we should make organ donations after death a mandatory system. All living people should be able to enjoy and cherish the continuation of life, while also respecting those who have passed and chose so valiantly to donate.

I agree that body donation should be the default option, especially when there is no real reason to accept otherwise!
Hi Kevin, I am very supportive of organ donations, but most people will not view organ donations in the same way as ecological sustainability. It may take generations of education and publicity. Based on humanitarianism, it may be hard for government to make it mandatory but I still agree that if life also has a sustainable way, organ donation provide in valuable assistance.
Hi, Kevin. I agree with the idea that more donations are ought to be encouraged as it could help people in need as well as saving energy and reducing emission, or protecting the environment. More promotions on body donation need to be published to help citizens lighten the current social norm burdens.
Hello Kevin! Thank you for bringing up organ donations as well :) While it may be difficult for organ donation after death to be mandatory (possibly due to cultural beliefs and human rights), I do agree with other's suggestion to make it the default option and something that we can opt out of if needed. It also is helpful to normalize talking about organ donations!
I like the fact that you are exploring the sustainability of life from the novel perspective of organ donation, which indeed brings life into another cycle and maximizes the function of the available organs.
Hey Kevin,
Great point! Organ donation is a really great way to give back and you'll have less to "dispose" of for lack of a better word, when someone passes away. If it's getting thrown out, might as well give it to someone who needs it
Hi Kevin, thanks for bring up a great point! I absolutely agree that donating our organs can continue our life in another way and help more people.
Hi Kevin,
I totally agree with mandatory organ donating and how some people aren’t able to experience life to its fullest due to their restrictive conditions. However, the one thing is to make it a mandatory law would be very difficult to pass because the ethics behind it. For example some religions and cultures use organs for their rituals and so on. I’m curious to know how you would deal with this?
Kevin, I couldn't agree more. I personally signed up to be an organ donor as well as donate my body to science/medicine and although it's possible that many would opt out, I think we could at least have more than 20% of people donating their organs to save many others. I always believed that donating your body was the best use my body could have when I pass; better than a memorial in a grave or an urn full of ash on a forgotten shelf. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Kevin Jiang, I think the concept of life after death is very interesting with regards to organ donation. To what extent do we apply human rights? I think there are interesting arguments on both sides. Eager to hear your thoughts!
i agree, making organ donation the default and give people the ability to opt out by choice in my opinion would be great policy
